spain-er-ific...

over coffee yesterday, mark and i pulled out the atlas and figured out our route for Spain this march. We both have must sees on our list (he wants to check out the Fallas festival in Valencia...I wouldn't mind hitting this onion festival outside of Barcelona (although we're not sure how far it is, outside of the city); i've got some museums and some design shops on the list, and of course lots of sitting in outdoor cafes, being all spanish-y.

sometimes planning for trips is just as fun as taking them..(ok. not equally..but man i love to plan!)

it's looking like it's all beginning and ending in madrid. which is just fine with me, to hit that city twice.

Hawsum. How long is this proposed trip? And are yinz driving? Spain has high-quality motorways. If I remember correctly, the trains are expensive and slow.

we're thinking two weeks...and we're planning on just training it...dealing with rental cars seems way too much work and responsibility...but we should bro down and get you and sophie's scoop. how bout a skype date!?

So exciting! I do have to say we traveled all over Spain and Italy by train and have nothing but good things to say about it. You can overnight on a train, wake up in a new city and skip paying for a hotel. We did that a lot. We would have a nice glass of the wine and dinner and then get on the train. We had quite a good time.

Two weeks on a train exploring Spain? Yes, please.

Sure, a Skype date. Why not? (Incidentally, I found renting a car in Spain to be a breeze.)

I've heard that 90 percent of the enjoyment of a trip goes into the planning and anticipation. I'm not sure I totally agree, but there is something to be said for it. The last days are spent thinking about going home. I challenge you to enjoy every last drop of vacation! I practiced taking moments like this in Mexico recently and I feel like I really appreciated every last bit, down to the ride to the airport. Then I got grumpy...
