Gardening Day...

This weekend mark and i made big progress on the side garden..vegetables that made the cut for this years plantings:

thai hot peppers
hungarian liptstick peppers
basil
chives
thyme
green onions
rosemary
collard greens
peas
tomatoes
parsley
cilantro
sage

It's adventurous, for sure...and even though we were reading some gardening books (thanks mom and dad!) we might have strayed too far from important rules (i.e. '12" apart? that seems crazy!! let's cram it all in one pot!')

so..fingers crossed.

Oh, and yes, mark's hands/fingers DO look really weird. I agree.

well done farmer shannon! i always ignore the spacing recommendations as well...especially when it comes to thinning seedlings-- "what? rip out a little baby plant that struggled so hard to push through, no way!" then, of course, i completely regret it later when the garden is totally crowded and nothing is choosing to produce and everything is all lanky and scraggly looking. be brutal.

I, on the other hand, only grow what I know will produce: lettuce, spinach, chard- you know, the easy stuff. I get a little nervous just thinking about peppers...

mark grew a ton of super hot peppers last season...plus a ton of banana peppers that we made into pepporcinis..maybe cause it's hotter here?

This comment is long overdue, but amazing plantings aside, what IS up with Mark's hands?
