For about 1 year, now, the guestroom has been more of a storeroom in our cute apartment. it's where we throw the giant costco purchases of toilet paper; where the box that the tv came in lives, plus bins and bins of stuff that we moved with that we have yet to open. camping stuff lives in this room, as does mark's crossbow and the broken chain saw that has sentimental value (thanks, rod). For the past two days, though, we've been going thru all the boxes and moving things down to storage in the basement.
my plan is to sand that black ikea shelf...maybe make it green (anyone have luck with repainting laminate?). and paint the walls. i thought, at first, i wanted a bold color. apple green! orange? chocolate brown! but now i'm thinking, maybe a neutral tone, and silkscreen some posters and let the art of the room be the focal point.
ok. longest post ever. but let me know what you guys think.
Corner of the guestroom.
The black bookshelf that hopefully will get a makeover.
The other corner of the room.
I like the putty color behind the red chair.
Apple green is fun. But will I tire of it?
Pale green is nice too.

Green! It's the guest room, so it's not like you'll be staring at the walls there all day. If you're unsure, go with a paler green, but keep it rich and intense - not pastel-y. We had an apple green kitchen (somewhere between the 2 shades above) and i loooved it.
i would tend towards a lighter color...because while it is a guest room now - it could be a room for someone else later. ahem. wink. i am also a fan of the accent wall. one bold wall in a more neutral room. maybe light green on 3 walls and apple green one one?
I have to strongly warn against the green. I painted a room green and am still regretting it. To make matters worse, Brian likes it. Or maybe, he just doesn't want to repaint it.
I love the putty color.
I agree that the strong green for all walls may be too much but an accent wall would be nice. Chocolate brown may be too much for a whole room but would make a nice accent, with putty walls? Or joanna's suggestion is great too!
I think you go with Moogk's sound advice!
